Our Background
Books at One is a community-focused social enterprise, investing profits in fostering a love of reading for learning, pleasure and connection, as well as being committed to supporting independent bookshops around the country.
Our bookshops, located in Louisburgh, County Mayo and Letterfrack, Co. Galway, act as social and creative hubs, offering a welcoming, comfortable space where people of all ages can come together through a shared love of reading.
We offer a wide range of accessible and diverse literature and believe there is a book for everyone regardless of economic, educational or social status.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: to promote and uplift independent bookstores in Ireland as essential community spaces, reducing loneliness and fostering positive human connection.
History of Books at One
Supported by The One Foundation, Books at One began with a store in Louisburgh, Co. Mayo and then expanded into Letterfrack, Co. Galway; each tailored to the needs and energy of their local communities.
Beyond being a traditional bookstore, the focus is on engaging the local community, often hosting reading groups, author events, and workshops, emphasising that these magical spaces can also be as much about conversation, creativity, and community inspiration, as they are about selling books.
Role of the Community Fund
The Community Fund was inspired by the incredible role that booksellers play as key members of their communities. More than just bookstores, they are inclusive spaces where people can connect, discover, and come together to share experiences and events.
