‘Home – the Story of Zak Moradi’  film screenings on Friday 27th September

Screenings of the amazing documentary are @ 2.30 & 7.30pm on Friday 27th September here in the bookshop.

Born in a refugee camp in Ramadi, Iraq, at the height of the Gulf War under the oppressive regime of Saddam Hussein, Zak Moradi was forced to flee with his family. Settling in Leitrim, Zak discovered a talent for hurling. In his book, Zak reflects on his first 20 years in Ireland, the skills he learned through sport and the role it played in helping him put down roots.

In this new documentary Zak returns home to Kurdistan (in Iraq). He meets his uncle (who was in the same refugee camp) and family who live in Iraq and visits the refugee camp that he grew up in, where it is still at full capacity over twenty years later.

It is an inspiring, poignant film showing what can be achieved through sport and community. It also gives a unique insight into life for people growing up and living in refugee camps.

This is a free event and all are most welcome.
